computer sound gone silent
After "cleaning" some unwanted files from my system yesterday, I haven't been able to get sound from the speakers. I must have accidentally deleted a necessary file. IS there any way to find out what was deleted and make the sound work again. I've already checked all the connections (speakers, etc.) to no avail.

Check the Mute of your sound. Sounds stupid but I have caught myself a few times where it was muted from my keyboard. these Multimedia based keyboards are great untill you accidentily hit a webpage when your rendering something or hitting the mute key . If thats not the prob, try and just reinstall the drivers for your sound card. Also check the device manager it should tell you what the problem is.

thats good advice from Vanquish. I'd also run the system file checker programs (start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information, the click the tools tab and select system file checker.
of course, this assumes you are using windows98 (although Id be surprised if XP didnt have something similar) if you have accidentally deleted some system files, the checker will inform you and you can replace them. be sure to have your disk handy.
