Linux Replacement for OneNote?
 

So, a few months ago I installed Ubuntu on my netbook. I'm now running 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) on the netbook and I love it. It works a lot better with my SSD than XP did.

However, I'm starting back to classes in a couple of weeks and I prefer to use my netbook to take notes. My favorite notetaking software is OneNote. It's easy for me to use and I am extremely familiar with it.

I am aware that I can install PlayOnLinux and other variations of wine to just run OneNote, and I'm considering that option (actually, I'm working on it today, and we'll see how it runs on my system). However, I'd like to know if there are any Linux-native programs that perform similarly to OneNote (easily make bulleted lists in individual boxes which then can be dragged and dropped, notes organized in a notebook style, print into OneNote capability). I already have LibreOffice, and it's okay, but not what I'm looking for.

I am a pretty big n00b when it comes to this stuff, but I am interested in learning more stuff about what I can do in Linux. Any and all help is much appreciated.

I've never used OneNote before, so I don't really know what the equivalent is, but if I were going to take notes for a class or whatnot I'd probably use Tomboy. Google seems to agree that this is the closest equivalent, so apart from running OneNote in wine that may be your best choice.

You probably already have either Tomboy or Gnote (which is a clone with a slightly different implementation -- the differences are highly technical and not all that interesting to anyone who isn't a developer, including me). Couldn't tell you how to find it in Unity, though -- that UI is simply awful.

Are you using a stylus to write the notes in OneNote?

Martian, the problem just occurred to me while sitting at the university library today, so I threw up a quick post thinking that would be the fastest way to get an answer, and that you would likely be first (and hey, I was right!).

Unfortunately, I left my netbook at work, and so I won't be able to work on this problem more until Wednesday. :(

No, ASU, I am not using a stylus. Some of the Linux replacements for OneNote I found only allowed for a stylus exclusively, which eliminates them from the running.

You might be able to find something on the Neowin list as well, or in the repos.

Or apparently using Quixey, some kind of google for applications according to LH. Can't hurt to try.
