cd burning problems

ok.. i have a really stupid problem with roxio lately. i bought a dell dimension 4400, xp-home edition OS, with roxio preinstalled and everything was fine until recently. i havent installed any new hardware or software that i can think of but now whenever i burn a data cd it seems to work fine, but when i try to read the cd afterward it says that the cd is either corrupt or it has a format that is not compatible with windows. i figured it might be roxio so i installed nero and cdrwin to try other programs. i burned a bin/cue with cdrwin and everything was ok, but when i did any kind of drag and drop using nero the same thing happened as did with roxio. it appeared to burn ok, but then it wouldnt read afterward.

i'm not totally clueless as what to do. could it have anything w/ the ASPI drivers? should i try and uninstall the burner and reinstall it? oh... the burner is a 'LITE-ON LTR 24102M' and the driver i have installed is 5.1.2535.0. i just thought of something? could a xp automatic upgrade have installed newer drivers that screwed something up?

are these just cdr's? i have lost some data with my lite-on & nero before, but it was a cdrw. i can see the file structure of the disc, but can only access some of the files on it

yes, they are CDR's. i've tried lowering the burn speed also if anyone was going suggest that too. i've tried memorex and imation cd's also.

when i brought one into work and tried to access it, it came up with a 1K file.. cant remember exactly the file extension, but it was a media file of some sort. when i physically checked the cd i could see that it had been burned though, more than a 1K would burn.

btw.. Butterfly Kiss is my wife's nick here and i was too lazy to log out and log back in last nite when i posted this. i was kinda frustrated after screwing with it for over an hour and wasting 5 or 6 cd's.

Check to see if the player can read the format...mp3's, wav files etc must be checked off in your options file (under tools in windows media player)...Also the roxio included from dell is not a full program...you have to go and upgrade for $59.00 so that it is fully functional

i've had the computer for over a year and never had a single problem burning anything.. data, audio, etc.. until about 3 wks ago. the version i have isnt a demo version so i'm not sure what you mean about it not being a full version. i dont have the 'gold/premium/whatever' version, but i see no need for paying for what i dont have to.
