Windows 7 /boot/bcd error

Hello,

I am working on a relative computer. Its a Toshiba laptop. About a year old. I was given the laptop in this condition. Turn it on and right after the bios screen pops up it /boot/bcd errors out.

Tells you to put in the windows 7 CD and repair the boot. But after 10-15 diffrent attempts at fixing the boot and nothing working. I formated the HD and was just going to do a fresh install.

So I put in my windows 7 Home premium CD in and started the install. It goes thru everything till the first restart and after the first restart it crashes to the /boot/bcd error. So I can not get it to restart and load off the HD without errorings out.

Seems like a HD issue to me. But ive looked at 100's of google suggestions and not once has anyone ever said this could be a bad HD. But it seems to me the BCD gets currupted after every restart.

If anyone has some advise on how to fix this issue that would be great.

I had an issue with a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 while I was attempting to ghost it. Is the BIOS set to boot from the named hard drive (e.g. Hitachi xxx)?

There was a strange graphical representation of the BIOS boot order that I had to toggle through to get it to boot from the HD again.

I doubt this will solve your problem, but maybe it will point you in another direction. Good luck.

The bios really don't show many options for me to change as far as HD settings. I was thinking about picking up a hard drive just to try and fix it with it. But I really do not want to buy a new HD and find out that is not the issue. But that may be what I got to do. I have tried all kinds of things suggested on the net. Tried formatting and installing windows 2 more times to have it do the same thing everytime. I am hoping this is not a motherboard issue as a new 80$ hard drive would be a giant waste then.

If it was a desktop I would have parts around but this is a laptop with a 2.5" sata hard drive. I can not put a 3.5" sata hard drive in it to test it out. Seems the only way to test it out is to invest in a HD.

Not sure if this is of any help but I ran into similar problem with XP, it turned out that one memory module was gone bad.

I would wager either bad ram like Zweib said or bad HDD.

It has a 1gb chip and a 2gb chip of ram. I tried both and there was no chance. I ordered a new HD should be here thursday and friday. If I can get the install to go well next I gotta sort out issues with the windows license. It has a toshiba license on the bottom of the laptop but they do not have a CD to install it. All I have is a retail oem CD for the same windows. And they do not have the $$ to buy a new license. But thats a minor issue if I cant get it to restart without messing up its boot.

Well. Got the HD today. Installed windows flawlessly. During the install I put no product key in. And unclicked auto authorize. After the install I changed the CD key to the toshiba key on the bottom of the laptop. It then authorized perfectly. Could not ask it to go more flawlessly.

Nice, thanks for the update. I was wondering about this problem and I am glad the new hard drive solved it.
