windows phone 7
Has anyone been following or even used a 'windows phone 7' yet? I'm kinda curious to get my hands on it. I've always been a fan of windows mobile and was quite an addict up until I finally switched to an android phone this year. My biggest though after watching videos was that the phone was to picture oriented.. all those icons are Dependant on photos... I don't exactly want to see pictures of my friends all the time! I have my android phonebook synced with my facebook contacts... it's useful and all but at least it's restricted to just the contact list and sms. I would start unfriending my ugly friends if there pictures appeared everytime I turned my phone on.
Also, worse yet... no backwards compatibility. There are some really killer applications from former versions of windows mobile such as TomTom Navigator.... not quite a google maps but it worked pretty darn well without cell signal. It's going to be a bit slow to start all over again with all new applications. ... and even worse, having to use a browser labeled as Internet explorer would suck... aleast until opera mobile or something comes out... as a web designer and geek, I would rather not have the Internet than use IE :-) Windows Phone 7 Series hands-on and impressions (updated with video) -- Engadget ![]()

I'm curious...would be tempted to upgrade my Blackberry (Bold). While I wish it the best..I really don't know if there's room in the smartphone market for Apple, Google..and Microsoft.

The Windows 7 Phone got worked into the plot of the most recent episode of Bones. That show pull this kind of crap all the time.
Regarding the phone, you really can't tell until you use it but I don't like the look of the UI. Props to them for trying something completely different but it doesn't look so efficient to me. I love the home pages that you have on Android and I don't see something that lets you choose from a dozen different apps on one screen. The large fonts and overlapping text looks like they are trying too hard. Finally, will the phone have something similar to swype? |

I've read that only windows certified ones will work with the phone. Anything else seems to cause some sort of voltage issue and renders the card useless.
way to go with being standard!!!

The explanation I heard was that it formats the card to treat the card and the phone's internal storage as a single volume and flips all the copy protection bits (it's called SECURE digital for a reason).
Also the UI looks very nearly like a ripoff of android's Slidescreen.
