3D TV

I'm in the market for a new TV. Was not even considering 3D until Sat. night when I stopped by the local Best Buy for another purpose and while there was browsing the TVs. Struck up a conversation with a salesman and the topic got around to 3D. He set up a demo and I was very impressed. Granted the demo is designed for optimal 3D viewing but it was well beyond whatever I was expecting. I had a demo year or so ago and was left pretty much unimpressed. I left the store thinking I need to check this out.

So, any opinions? I don't do video gaming. Would watch movies, can't really see the benefit for most TV shows and question if it would add that much to sports, although a basketball game was shown in the demo and it certainly added depth of field.

Is this a fad or something that will become more prevalent? I had pretty much thought of it as a fad until Sat.

I really don't want 3D television to catch on. I don't feel like having to put on glasses to watch television.

It will catch on maybe when it does not require the glasses. I'm still waiting for hologram TV's though.

If you are in the market for TV. I would recommend going with a decent sized 40-46 inch LED Samsung. Out of all the TV's I sell, including the 3'Ds I find the Samsung LED's to be my favorite eye candy. Other than the standard saving more energy and generating less heat. I find that the 3'D TV's tend to be kind of irritating. The 2'D and 3'D modes are always being switched to watch whatever and if by some chance you don't get tired of taking off and putting on the glasses. Then all the times you look at the TV in 3'D mode without the glasses on accident will be enough of a headache to make just about any reasonable person to have a headache.

I'm pretty sure it will be Samsung. Or possibly LG. The size of the room and where the chairs are located pretty much dictates as large a TV as I can afford. Right now that looks to be 55 inch, although it should be larger.

Unless I can find come compelling reasons to go 3D it will be 2D unless I catch a great deal on one which I think will be doubtful.

I think the technology is cool, but it has its place. If it becomes cheap and somewhat standard (i.e. an option on TVs or computers), then go nuts.

I don't like the idea of a dedicated 3D device that can't be switched to standard 2D.

It would be forever before I get one anyway. I only recently witnessed my household move from the CRT era into the LCD era.

I don't know, it seems the way the technology works right now its not really conducive to families or large groups. If everyone has to wear goggles and sit in a certain place to watch it...it seems like a neat idea but unless the tech changes so you can just push a button and something happens to the screen to make the picture 3d without goggles and such I just don't see it really catching fire amongst the masses.

if my TV died today, I don't think I'd get one yet. I already wear glasses, and wearing 2 pair of glasses seems stupid. and there's not enough content yet to go for it.

hopefully they will come up with at least clip on glasses before to long. I was super impressed with the image on the viewings I've seen, and those were on Samsung TV's

You can buy it with 3d, just, I wouldn't advice buying it FOR 3d. Not only do you pay the premium at the hardware level, you'll pay extra for every 3d disc you want to put in to your blu-ray player/ps3 what have you.
Personally I'm interested in it for gaming applications, and porn, thats about it lol.

TV's have a ton of marketing mumbo jumbo. It's now easier to understand a computer's abilities than a TV's because they have so much fluff. Don't get me wrong, 3D is cool, but so is masturbating.
