Sony tube
So, my friend just returned his Sony monitor for the third time. Why? He thinks the two lines caused by the Trinitron Shadowmask are defects in the monitor. I mean, if the two little lines drive hime nuts, why doesn't he just buy a new monitor without the trinitron shadowmask? Because 'Sony is the best'. Why are they one of the best? Because of their Trinitron tube, with the two little wires that very slightly show up on the display. This circle of insanity will never end.

Ha, this makes me laugh. I have to admit that the two wires annoyed me, but I knew that they were supposed to be there (my work monitor, I don't own one).
If I was the store I'd make him buy a different monitor or keep the Trinitron. There's probably something in the manual that mentions that its normal. |

tell him to consider those lines a "mark of authenticity". really! trinitrons kick ass. and actually, the trinitron lines are infamous for making people return the trinitrons to the stores... sony had to take some steps to educate the retailers and make it very clear in their manuals that the lines are supposed to be there

Sony computer products are really good....Any trinitron based monitor is really good picture quality....if he wants tell him to go to a lesser quality/shittier monitor.....If he wants a nice looking reliable one tell him to keep it..........

Sony does make nice monitors. Their 18" LCDs are nice too but I never did a side-by-side comparison.
You know, I've had a ViewSonic A90 19" for a couple of years. It was inexpensive and works great. I'm sure the Sony would look better but would it so much better to spend the extra $? It's usually small text that suffers on lower quality monitors. I say you shouldn't be looking at such small text anyway so just make it larger and it'll look good on any monitor.

I thought that was a feature of winxp pro, the lines that is.
The monitors at my school have those lines, and the sure as hell aren't sonys.

You'll see the lines with Gateway tubes also...the old Gateway Trinitron tube does the same thing.
At any rate, what a dork. Does he even tell them why he's returning it? They should show him some in the showroom that look exactly the same. Geez. |
