I'm not a mandrake user, so for the specifics on mandrake security levels, consult mandrakes documentation. also check: mandrake user and maybe: http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/secure/smsec.html the last one looks pretty complex, but again IANAMU, so the docs are MUCH better than I could be.

I highly recommend subscribing to the mandrake-newbie mailing list. It helped me out a lot when I was on Mandrake. (Of course, create a filter for your e-mail to sort those mailings into a different folder because there are a lot)
As far as p2p, I like qtella a bit. You can also get kazaalite running under WINE although I'm not sure how as I've yet to do it. If you use the eDonkey protocol at all there is also lmule.sf.net
