I'm sick of Apple. Overpriced, proprietary crap. They lead you guys on, unlocking things that were there in the Gen 1 and 2 versions just to get you to "upgrade." Why people, "sheeple," continue to love Apple is beyond me. Steve Jobs has done a complete 180 in the last 30 years or so. He's just a corporate prick now.

The iphone boondoggle just keeps getting worse (or better I suppose, depending on your perspective). Had a twofer today.
First, there was the press conference today. DSLReports.. er, reports that Mr. Jobs downplayed the antenna issues again, and claimed that it's a problem endemic to all smartphones. Huh? But they're giving you a free case anyway, out of the goodness of their hearts. So that's something, I guess. Apple Downplays Antenna Issue Using High-End Bullshit - Though hey, you get a free case if you shut up about it - dslreports.com And what should I stumble across this evening, but another article, this one from The Register, stating that many iphone users (specifically the iphone 4 users, it seems) are having difficulties with the new 4.01 software update and are very upset about it. iPhone customers lay into Apple after iOS 4.0.1 update fails to install ? The Register To be clear, this is the update that was intended to fix the supposed software issue that Apple was claiming to be the problem in the first place. No word from Apple yet regarding the software issues. I guess we'll see how that one develops.

My wife and I have iPhone 3Gs and we're not going to be touching OS4. Apple's deployment of the iPhone 4G and its OS has done serious damage to my belief in the iPhone and its OS as the superb mobile device it was when the 3G came out, to say nothing for the degree to which they've seemingly gone out of their way to force obsolescence on my perfectly capable phone.
I've seen jailbroken 3Gs which run faster with more features than 4Gs with OS4. And yet I'm told that my poor 1.5 year old phone can't handle multitasking and, /gasp, a wallpaper feature. Ridiculous. |

I'm seriously thinking about a Motorola Droid. I want nothing to do with Apple. Apple makes great products, but the baggage associated in an Apple purchase irks me to no end. It's gotten down to where I'm not so much anti-Apple, just anti-Bullshit.

The Motorola Droid is about to be discontinued. If the Motorola Droid X is too large for you, though, the Droid 2 will be coming out soon.

I have an Iphone 3GS and I recently updated my phone with the 4.0.1 update even though it's not a Iphone 4 and I got great reception I updated it just because it said the update was compatible with Iphone 3G, 3GS and Iphone 4. Ever since I have downloaded and installed this update my 3GS has a much weaker signal strength and I am having issues with it linking to my Sony car stereo which btw is Iphone compatible. Before the update I was getting a full signal bar pretty much everywhere. Now I am lucky to get 3 or 4 bars. I was just wondering if anyone else with a 3GS is getting this problem after the 4.0.1 update??? I guess I may be able to restore the origional settings. Has anyone ever restored their Iphone and if so does it wipe out everything or just certain updates???

Remy - The 4.0.1 update should not change the amount of signal you truly receive. According to Apple, it only corrected the thresholds at which they display each bar. So, a 'bar' is not really a useful measurement. They could have shown a %age, but no one does that.

I upgraded from a 3G to the iPhone 4 about a week ago. After using it for a week, I feel like this whole antenna issue got blown way out of proportion.
Yes, the signal drops if you cover the spot, but does it have any effect on actual day-to-day usage? No. I've noticed improved reception compared to my old 3G regardless of how I hold the phone, and I'm not using the bumpers either. |

I've had mine iPhone 4 a week now and I couldnt love it more, but I upgraded from an LG VU so I can't compare it to the 3G version. I may be in the minority but I would NEVER have a cell phone without a hard shell case, Im way too clumsy lol and a case takes care of the issue instantly. I've had one call drop, but I was in the mountains at the time so it was expected. Its got a few things (or rather doesnt have) I dont like, but I've found apps to cover that (sms templates is a big thing it didnt have), and I dont like that if I want to have a custom sms tone I have to jailbreak it...but that has nothing to do with reception does it?
in short, I've had zero reception problems with mine

I've had mine for a while. The bars displayed are on par with my 3G but not as good as my wife's 3GS. But I pay little attention to the bars and more to call quality which is fine or at least as fine as AT&T can be.
Everything else about it is a big improvement over the previous phones. Camera, multitasking, speed. Even the battery life is a little better.
