xp pro to 2k.... can't access drive now
I recently went from xp pro back to 2k pro due to xp's lack of stability in network enviroments.... anyways i now can't access my 2nd hard drive that worked fine 2 hours ago in xp..... in the mmc it shows that the drive is not formated, I know it was NTFS.... but i guess 2k just doesn't like something about it now..... i backed up the data that i needed from my old install on this drive and now am unable to access it...... anyone have any ideea's how to recover the data short of installing xp again?
thnx ahead of time |

Quick an honest answer...no.
I can't think of why you can't see the data. Xp doesn't have a newer version of NTFS unreadable by win2k that I'm aware off. I would do the xp reinstall, maybe do an xp reinstall over the second drive and just don't format it.

As far as not seing the drive, XP does have a newer version of NTFS than 2K. This is probably why you can't see the drive under 2K. |

well if i click to open a remote computer in network nieborhood or type \\"compname" in IE it will not connect at times and it gets really old really quick, i keep haveing to walk to my other pc and do the task from my 2k box and then send it to my xp box.....
xp had always been slow to open a network connection and then it just quit........ the only feature i did like in xp is the ability to do system recoveries |

Steve, you are the first for me.
It was only 2k that had that problem with me, but that was resolved with sp1 I believe.

If the second drive was formatted NTFS with XP, you will need to either reinstall XP to access that drive, or you can try something from winternals and check out NTFSDOS

oh, and obvious answer is reinstall XP and see if it still sees the data. NTFS versions are different between the various versions. You should have no problem accessing NTFS 5.1 from W2K though...so it's highly unlikely this will work. But hey, ya never know...your system sounds possessed.
