Operating System?

EDIT: And you mean just a client, not a server, right?

for windows - FlashFXP.

i believe it's easy enough for a n00b, but good enough for 'geeks' to use and love as well.

cuteFTP is really easy to use.

IMO FlashXP is a bit confusing to the n00b because it can connect to two FTP sites at the same time to transfer between FTP sites.

IE has a built in ftp client, but all the ones above are good.

FlashFXP is the best Windows client. It's not TOO hard to use, and has many advanced features in case you know how to use em. http://www.flashfxp.com

And I highly recommend you never use IE to log onto FTP sites, IE is a terrible FTP client. It seems to make multiple logins, which can piss off siteops. It also seems to be slow. I haven't done extensive testing so I can't be sure, but I can almost always tell when someone tries to log onto my ftp server using IE. I ban them immediately and tell them to get a real client.

I'll have to agree with all the FlashFXP people here When I moved to Flash from CuteFTP, I didn't really have that much more to do - the interfaces of both are similar and are both geared towards beginning users.

Flash just has the capability to do so much more though - that's why I like it.

FlashFXP for life

It can be the most basic of clients, and can be the most powerful if you know how.

i've used 3 ftps' and i'll say that filezilla is the best. I've used wsftp and did not like it at all, used cuteftp but that wasn't free and only had the evaluation. also used bison, so i guess that's 4.

filezilla is JUST like cuteftp. it is very friendly and very nice. very easy to use.
