Recording Music - Problem with Playback

So I'm a total noob with home recordings but I've been trying to get something down despite my total lack of skills with the process. It will take me a while but I will learn.

I have a Lexicon Omega Studio with Cubase LE4. Currently I have managed to get sound going in from my microphone to the PC, but I can't for the life of me play it back. I have two speakers hooked up to the studio, and I've even tried having them just directly plugged in to the computer, and just changing output settings to try and push the sound out through that, but nothing.

I have tried fiddling with the output settings to no avail, read help manuals...does anybody have any useful suggestions?

I'm not desperate yet but will be soon...

Thanks for any ideas!

To be our soul and gesture it abroad,
Our hearts are incommunicable still.
In what we show ourselves we are ignored.
The abyss from soul to soul cannot be bridged
By any skill of thought or trick of seeming.
Unto our very selves we are abridged
When we would utter to our thought our being.
We are our dreams of ourselves, souls by gleams,
And each to each other dreams of others' dreams.

Hard for me to say for sure, here, since I've never used that particular device. It'll depend on how it's passing the input on to your PC -- if it's going through the USB, there'll be a setting for the volume level somewhere in the device settings. I'd poke around in the software and see if I can find input levels anywhere.

For clarity, you're able to record and see the soundwave in Cubase, yes? If the audio stream is being captured, it's just a matter of figuring out where the snag is.

Assuming Windows, you can try Control Panel>Sound And Audio Devices. Under the Devices tab you can adjust playback volume, and fiddle with the sliders. You can also go to Options>Properties on the volume window to show more controls and make sure that the correct one(s) is being displayed.

It looks like a nice little unit. Hope I can help.

First, what Martian said: can you see that sound is captured?

I'm not really sure about Cubase, I'm going to assume it's similar to Sonar.

You'll have to make sure that your master buss is set to playback through the Lexicon device.

The master buss is sort of like another track in Cubase. Then Cubase has to route that to the appropriate output.

Make sure your newly recorded track is then pointing to the master buss.

Track->Master Buss->Audio Device

You should also make sure that the Lexicon is routing it's outputs appropriately. I'm not familiar with the device but it should have some sort of simple setup or mixer that's completely different than Cubase.

Finally, post your specs: hardware, OS, etc. What driver are you using, ASIO, WDM etc.? This is probably set up through Cubase on some properties page somewhere.

Hey guys, thanks so much for your help! I'm now able to playback. I'm not sure what did it but I fiddled with the configurations for input and output in the program and suddenly it all fell into place. Maybe I can post some of my dabbling on TFP soon!
