HDTV LCD TV's
So I have been looking at HDTV's and Im wanting to get a 40" or 42".
And Ive noticed some have 60hz refresh rate and then there is some 120hz. How much of a diffrence will that make? Also has anyone picked up a referbed LCD from newegg? Is there nething I should look out for? Im mostly going to use it for HD TV and movies. No real video games or nething. Once in awhile ill hook my computer up to it. I am hoping to send about 700$. So far im mostly looking at: Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p LCD HDTV TV - eBay (item 370204460608 end time May-27-09 14:55:20 PDT) And : Newegg.com - Recertified: TOSHIBA REGZA 40" 1080p Full HD LCDTV w/ CineSpeed - 40RF350U |

I've been shopping LCD's recently, and see that Bestbuy has some 40-42" for under $700. Hope that helps. ;)
|
I actually have the LN40A550 and it is a fucking excellent TV. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.
|
Maybe we should make an LCD buyer's guide!

I can tell a huge difference between 60 and 120 hz. the 120 hz seems like a faster frame rate, it's very weird. I prefer 60 over 120.
|
BTW the LN40A550 was $1,300 for most of last year. I got it on sale at Circuit City last November for $999 which was an absolute bargain considering everywhere else on the Interwebs had it for bare minimum $1200.

What do you guys think of this LCD?
Seems like a good price. I can get it for 750$ and 50$ off because of cash back from my card. I can also do a instore pickup to save on shipping. Toshiba - 40" Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV - 40RV525U ---------- Post added at 09:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 AM ---------- Also whats the dead pixel policy on Sony / Toshiba / Samsung. I have herd some of have a no dead pixel policy and some say its gotta be in the sweet area to matter |
Just take it back if it has dead pixels.
That seems to be a good TV but I don't see any sort of "picture engine" in it which is typically what makes standard def stuff to look decent on an LCD. I bought a $700 Dynex 42" 1080p LCD from Best Buy and took it back 3 weeks later because TV looked like hammered shit on it. It had no image engine on it. The LN40A550 has DNIe (Dynamic Natural Image engine) and that basically stands for "making TV look good on an LCD." |
Neone know if this tv has a picture engine? I cant find nething about it having one.

Ordered it today. Gotta drive a hour to get it at a diffrent bestbuy. But it saved on shipping so. Also got 10% off because my card has cash back. Ended up being about 770$. Hopefully it turns out to be a good tv
|
Agreed, that's a great deal.

Well got the tv all setup. pretty sweet. how much heat does a LCD put off compared to say like a projection LCD tv? It seems to have some heat coming out the back but not alot. My old projection seemed to put off alot more heat. Thats one reason I upgraded. I am putting this in a 14'X14' room and the AC in that room aint very good so my old projection heated the room up alittle.
|
My LCD HDTV puts off a lot of heat in the front, not the back. We actually run it during the winter to warm the living room, no joke.
|
This thing doesnt put off much heat at all. My old projection would take the room from 70 to 80. Right now the rooms sitting at 68 and not going up. I will say the SD stuff looked better on my projection tv. But the HD stuff looks better on this.
