My DVD drive and Win Defender are AWOL
I can't figure this one out, maybe someone here can shed light on it. I have a new install of vista on a new puter and things have been rocky from the get go but I smoothed most of it out except for windows defender refuses to start and pops up with an error message and my DVD burner won't show up in "my computer".
At first everything was fine until I disconnected the burner to hook up another hard drive to transfer files. After I hooked the burner back up win defender won't start and my burner is awol. The burner doesn't even show up in device manager until I scan for hardware changes but even after it finds it it doesn't show up in my computer or disk management. I knew vista wasn't well liked and problematic but damn I've been going through alot of crap with it and I haven't even installed or done a single anything, haven't even installed drivers for the motherboard or video cards yet. How does microsoft manage to release an operating system that f**k's up the second it's installed. Any ideas? Anyone? anyone? |

Need more details. But if your motherboard requires drivers to be installed then I would start by installing the drivers. If your AWOL DVD is your only optical drive then just download whatever drivers you need. Also, you probably have Service Patch 1 installed. But if you don't I would definitely get it and install it. SP 2 will be out soon.
