In the past I've had bad experiences with ATI and their drivers, so I've always leaned toward Nvidia.
I currently own an Nvidia Ti4600, but if I had the cash to spare, I'd get an ATI 9800 Pro All In Wonder. I believe ATI does have the superior video capture card.

Totally depends on who is winning in realworld applications and image quality, as of now I would say that is ATI.
