New dvd/cdrom not detected
The jumper settings are correct, it gets power, its got the right connections. The drive doesn't show up on 'my computer' and it doesn't read any discs. No error messages. Any ideas?

Make sure you uninstall the old drivers. Even if you already did that, uninstall the new drivers and reinstall them.
Usually, when it does that, you'll need to re-assign a drive letter from computer management, but 9 times out of 10, you don't have to do that if you do what I wrote above. Basically, your computer is still seeing the old drive and (for some reason...?) gets hung up while assigning a new drive letter to it. I fix loads of computers here at work where it won't read peoples usb thumb drives. |
Thanks, I'll try that once I get the cdrom working. As you can see from my ntoskrnl thread. I was hoping to skip over that problem, but alas.

Restart your computer and enter the BIOS to see if the motherboard detects the CDROM at the hardware level.
I've run into a couple computers running Windows Vista where the CD/DVD drive wasn't recognized in Windows. The solution recommended here has worked for me in the past: The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista |
I've got it working now thanks. I had to fix my cddrive so I could reinstall the drivers for the dvd/cddrive and that worked. Finally got my comp all fixed up. Yay! This is my first upgrade in like 5 years because of money problems (and I'm a gamer).
