Picture transfer question...

Hi all.

I just got a new LCD picture frame and am trying to fill up the memory card with pics. I'm using a card reader on a reasonably powerful computer:

XP Pro SP3
2 GB DDR2
C2D 2.13 GHz
nVidia 8600 GTS
SATA internal and USB 2.0 external drives.

My pics are spread out over a few drives so I tried to just use XP's search to find all the pics. No problem. I get thousands of thumbnails, can see exactly what I want to drag and drop to the SD card. But when I try to drag and drop, each pic takes like 30 seconds to even try to transfer. Then Search stops responding. At this point RAM is only down to like 900 MB, shouldn't be a problem. I even dropped the thumbnail size down from the default 96. Didn't help. So, I tried Picasa. I see all my pics fine, again. But can't seem to drag and drop at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

Are you dragging-and-dropping multiple pictures at once? Possibly multiple pictures that are in multiple locations on the hard drive?
I've experienced serious lag when trying to move audio files in this manner. The only real solution I've had is to only do one folder (or single large file) at a time. I also keep all my media consolidated and my computer automatically defrags, which I think helps.

good luck!

Just trying to drag and drop one pic at a time. File size from 150K to like 800K. Shouldn't be so slow!

Thanks for the reply PulpMind.

What if you right clicked on the file you wish to transfer, select "send to" and then select the destination you are transferring the files to. Can't imagine this will make much of a difference, though.

Nope, "send to" does the same thing. Very strange. And annoying.

The only think I can think of is running chkdsk on your HDD or try formatting the SD card. Have you tried transferring to alternative media, like an external HDD?
