Networking Problems
Im trying to make an ICS connection with my PC & PS2 online.
But, my PC network card keeps saying "Network Cable Unplugged" anyone know why? :( Im using XP, and a crossover cable for the connection as I was told you had to use :) Thanks |
PS2 has a network card ? Wow. I didn't know that.
Umm. You got the TCP/IP Settings on the PS2 correct? I.e., in the same subnet as you PC. And the 'gateway' pointing to your PC's IP. If that's ok. Then I'm outta ideas. Sorry ... |
The only thing the PS2 says is that it's unable to connect.
But, its my PC which says the cable isnt connected... :( |
Geez I never knew the PS2 had a NIC either... so I'm not sure what the details on that is.
Anyway network cable unplugged means that your computer isn't getting anything through the ethernet port, regardless if a cable is plugged in or not. This could mean a bad cable, misconfigured protocols or some other network settings, or bad NICs. I'd start out with the obvious and see if you can connect your PC to another PC. It's probably best if you try to plug into an existing network, and/or plug into a computer that is known to network properly. This will help determine if you have a bad cable or a problem on your PC and what not. If all that works then your PS2 probably isn't configured properly. Again I don't know the details of the PS2 network settings so make sure they correspond to your PC, if possible. If your PC can't connect to another PC, then make sure the cable is good and check your interface card/drivers. Then check the network settings and the like. Make sure the proper protocols are installed and set properly. As far as ICS, look up the help pages because that would be a much better source of information on that topic than me. Make sure you setup the host properly etc. Sorry for being vague but I hope this gave you some idea of what to look for. |
Thanks guys :)
I phoned up Sony today and they said try a new cable, so I'll go and get it replaced tomorow :) And, I dont have another PC or anything to try it out and test it so thats out of the question :( But hopefully it will be sorted tomorow :) Thanks again |
Which PS2 nic are you using the one for the USB port with the Phoenix 2 chip (Farallon Brand Card) or the Sony produced network add on for the PC card slot in the back.
|
I'm sure he's trying to use the Network expansion card that you can buy so you can play all your games online.
If your using just the PS2 and the computer and not using a hub, just PC to PS2 then the cross over cable should do the trick. But if you're using a hub you'll need straight cables for everything. If you still don't get a connection then I'd say the NIC on the PS2 isn't working right. |
