Cell Phone Barcode Scanners?
I was listening to NPR not too long ago and heard about an interesting cell phone app:
Apparently it is a barcode scanner that searches online for whatever product you 'scan' to compare prices. Uses the phones camera to take a picture of the barcode and then 'read' it. I tried to search around for it, but I am lost. There are several available, but none of them seem fully developed. I have an ATT Tilt, if it matters. Have any of you guys used a similar program? What was it called? |
There are 2 of them on the G1: ShopSavy and Compare Anywhere.
|
Yep. I use Compare Anywhere, but Shop Savy is more popular. They both rule...haven't heard of them being for anything other than the G1 though.

i've been using a scanner thing for QR code on my windows mobile phone... but always been wanting something to do 2D barcodes, the potential shopping features do sound pretty cool. I'm looking for more software titles, will report back if i find anything good :-)

Barcode scanner for the G1 does QR's...dunno if it's also for Windows Mobile.
|
I also use ShopSavvy for the G1. Absolutely phenomanal application. Has saved me quite a bit of money already.

The nice thing about these programs is for stores like home depot. They match local competitors and then take 10% more off the matching price. Before I buy anything there I scan it and see if it is cheaper at one of their local competitors.
