sound problems in IE6???
i consider myself pretty saavy on the computer, but for some reason, today, my IE6 is acting strange.... basically, all sound from IE--whether from webpages, streaming audio, or just program wavs are distorted and staticky. i haven't installed anything recently and i've check my sound card settings.... everything's normal except for sound coming in thru IE.
actually, i just checked out the sound in other browsers, like mozilla, and it also has the same problem. could it be an ISP thing? or did something get wrecked? help. --- i'm using a 933MHz P3, 512MB RAM, XP Pro, IE6, on a DSL connection.

This obviously isn't a problem with IE6 since you stated that other applications have the same problem. Also, sound is 100% unrelated to your ISP. I'm not even sure where you draw the relation.
Anyway, check your cables. Perhaps you have one that has become loosened.

Yeah so it's not IE specific since you said Mozilla had the same problem.
Try playing an audio cd and some sort of computer sound file (WAV, MP3, or something). If one works and the other doesn't then go into your volume controls and make sure nothing is muted or turned down too low. Make sure the drivers are installed and working from Device Manager. Make sure your cables are plugged in any everything... try your speakers with a portable cd player or something to make sure they're working. Then try some headphones or another pair of speakers that you know are work on your computer. You could even try a different soundcard. It's doubtful your ISP has anything to do with this. |
