Hella Good Deal on HP HDX - Gamer's Dream

So...

I've been in the market for a new laptop. I want it for gaming, for school and for work. My buddy pointed me to the announcement yesterday of HP's new HDX16 and HDX18 lappies. Not bad AT ALL. You can order the 16" online now, and get any at retail at the end of the month.

-HOWEVER-

There is a coupon code: NB0915

that gives you $500 off any CUSTOM BUILT Pavillion laptop.

So, I had decked mine out pretty well and it was $1909. I found the coupon code and tested it. It worked! I got greedy and went back and added more stuff (blu-ray, HDTV tuner, etc.), got to the cart, added the coupon. BAM! Coupon invalid! I was pissed! Went back, made it my old config and it accepted it again. Sooo... $1409 for the following:

Quote:
- HP Pavilion HDX16t Entertainment Notebook
*sweet looking, by the way!
- Upgrade to Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80GHz)
- 16" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra Brightview Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
- 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
- [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
- Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
- HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

The Blu-Ray I'm unsure about. I had checked it when I had "got greedy" and put it back to the normal one before the code worked. BUT... it is what my invoice I printed online says, AND what my email from HP says. So... we shall see!

I would imagine it would require no batteries and be no inches long.

Neat Always nice to save money. Never been fond of gaming on a laptop though. Never done it myself but have heard a lot of horror stories from people that only have a laptop to game on. All that heat in something that small just isnt easy to deal with and heat kills electronics. But if your just going to Play games like WOW or something thats not real system intensive then it shouldnt be much of a problem. But if your going to be playing fast paced fps games with the really fancy graphics i bet it will run real hot. Should be a interesting toy and for the price its a hell of a nice laptop even if you didnt want to game on it.

Most gaming laptop are designed with the heat issue in mind. The HDX series is a gamers/enthusiast line of laptops. But yeah, I'll mostly play Peggle and Warhammer, I'm sure.

That's a great deal. The only other thing that rivals it is Gateway's FX series laptops - theirs are around that price but without any sort of offers.

Still, what you posted is an amazing deal. Congrats!

That laptop should still come with a remote control. The remotes in the HP laptops (I have a HP Pavilion dv6000) are tiny and there is a slot for them on one side of the laptop. In the fourth picture (the side view) in the link you posted, xeph, you can see the remote control slot next to the FireWire port. I use my remote when I'm listening to music and cleaning or watching movies/media on the laptop from across the room.

One thing though--the finish on the HP laptops is very glossy and picks up fingerprints and other things very easily, and it shows. They send you a little cloth to use with it but it doesn't get all the smudges off sometimes, I find. Sprayway window cleaner is great for getting them off--it's ammonia-free and doesn't spray all over the place.

My HP was also a sweet deal, but I'm not entirely sure how much I saved, as I got the employee discount.

Yeah, I'm sure it comes with a remote, just not the HDTV/remote bundle. They had radio buttons. Whatever you selected was verbatim copied to the invoice. Except I'm fairly certain that I did NOT have the Blu-ray checked on mine. But hey, whatever...

Yeah, I used the remote on my old HP all the time! It's actually quite handy. Especially since I think I'll be using the blu-ray for a portable movie player, hooked up via HDMI to whatever TV in the house I need to hook it to.

Unless the 4 gig RAM comes bundled you should go ahead and drop down to 2 gig RAM since vista will only recognize 2 gigs and even past 2 gigs the speed increase will be very small, not easily noticeable unless youre running really complex programs.
Great deal overall though.

64-bit support FAR more than 2GB of RAM. Also, even the 32-bit editions support ~3GB. I have 4GB in my desktop and it makes a HUGE difference. In fact, 4GB of RAM has been more of a performance booster than almost any other upgrade I've ever made.
