USB external HDD not showing up in XP Pro.
Hi all. Weird problem here: I have an external PATA hard drive in a USB enclosure. It shows up in Hardware but not when I go to My Computer. Just shows my C: drive as far as Hard Drives go. It's got a Linux distro on it. I would like to format it and use it in XP again. I need the space. Any ideas?
XP Pro, SP3 Core 2, 2 GB DDR2 etc. |
Go to start, run, type in compmgmt.msc, go to disk management
See if your hard drive is there with a wrong drive letter...if you see it, right click on it and go to change drive letter, change it to L or something and it should show up |
i have mine as dynamic and have to activate it. wrote a script which may help:
c:\>diskpart /s c:\windows\online.txt online.txt: select disk 1 online |
It shows up as Drive 1 but no drive letter. As far as the script, how do I run it? Thanks guys for the help.

Once I used Partition Magic to format the external hard drive Win XP was happy. I guess XP was just not happy to see Linux on the drive. Thanks MS. :)
