Dead pc troubleshooting
Ok heres what happened. after a long day of gaming a fps game that puts a good strain on my system i rebooted the pc and it didnt restart. i got a picture for a few seconds as it was booting just showing that first bios type stuff then the screen just filled up with garbage like the picture wasnt coming up then it lost any signal to the monitor. i tried a different monitor and no good and a couple times while rebooting it i got it to show that first couple seconds of video again but it never even got to the point where windows started to load. i tried swapping out the ram pulling one stick at a time and trying each one alone. no effect
This is a asus motherboard about three years old been working flawlessly since and a 7800gt nvidia vid card also been working flawlessly. i have tried resetting the cmos and pulling the battery onthe motherboard with it unplugged. didnt have any effect. when i start it up it gives me that one solid beep like it always does no beep code. if i pull the vid card and try it without one it gives me a beep code saying the vid card isnt there. about a week ago or so it had a real nasty hard crash and gave me a blue screen of death and rebooted itself before i could even read what it said. but it worked fine after that. I am thinking its got to be a power source thats not supplying enough power anymore or a bad vid card or motherboard. but i cant figure out what one. Since when i try to turn it on it does give me that one beep from the motherboard i am kind of thinking it is a weak power source or bad vid card. But i can not afford to replace both just guessing and throwing parts at it. So i could use any sort of advice on how to trouble shoot this problem. I really dont want to end up replacing the wrong part. |

hmm.. So there's screen corruption during POST(ram count and Hardrive detection) then monitor goes out while windows is loading or as soon as POST finishes? I'm guessing you can't get into safe mode?
I had the same problem and it ended up being the power supply. I had 2 video cards to test with, one was a big guy that needed extra power cord and the other was a cheap thing. With the cheap one, It had enough juice to load into safe mode but the bigger card had corruption on the POST screen and monitor went out right as the windows loading screen was popping up.

it normaly dosnt even make it through post. but yeah i think i might have the same problem you had. its never made it to windows. I wont be able to get to safe mode.
I just hope antec is good at living up to its warrenty. think i might just have a month or so left on it. if i can only find the reciept. I was starting to think it might be the power supply since the video has shown up for a few seconds at least a couple times. Thanks for the info good to know i might just be on the right track. |
