Virus/Spam on Facebook?
I received a message in my facebook inbox from an old highschool friend that has all the hallmarks of some kind of spam. I don't just mean the usual annoying JoinApp garbage but a real phishing style email that seems to have hijacked an account.
The text was: Hi Friend, You've been catched on hidden cam yo: This is followed by a link similar to youtube that I won't paste hear to prevent further spread. Is this a new phenomenon? Can someone's Facebook account be hijacked through a malicious app or something? Has anyone received a similar message? |
That's the first report of phishing/spam/crap via facebook I've heard, and that's what it looks like to me - someone probably got phished!
Malicious app? Don't know about that though. It's "supposed" to be secure. Thanks for the heads up! |
I got the same thing today. I don't know what it does but watch out anyway.

When I searched for further information the first time, I only found this post at TFP and one foreign language site. Now I also see:

Ah, This reminds me so much of section in a computer crime class i took this past spring semester. There's a rule about spam mail if it looks too good to be true than its not. and Never click on a link especially ones that have a http:// link. the right hacker could manipulate the link to get into your pc's pants. I found the link my prof used to test our knowledge of phishing. MailFrontier Phishing IQ Test

But maybe I'm a fool, because I got a 20% on that test. I thought it was horrible. The only way to tell is to right click the link to see whether it actually goes to the site or not... very confused on what this test is supposed to teach. |
your suppose to click on the links provided and judge whether the style of email is legit or fake.
|
How can you tell from the "style" of the email?
I check the legitimacy of the links IN the email, since style is the easiest thing in the world to copy. I just clicked false on every one because of it Spoiler: And still got 80% :p |
Oh man, I totally just noticed this too. It's like, it goes to faceimbook.com or summat. It's funny, because I remember this shit happening on myspace, and since it's filled with 14 year old girls, that shit would spread like wildfire. I don't think anybody looks at urls anymore. I thought this shit would go away after moving over to facebook, but nope! Ever since it was open to everybody, now people are just spreading the flames. Weak.
