More Mac users are Trolls than PC users. Whether or not you'll admit it, it's true.

Gonna throw my 2 cents in...

Macs are great...in their own niche. video editing, graphics intensive design, etc. They have their place.

PC's are better at gaming, number crunching, etc.

It's just a matter of the right computer for the right job.

The problem I have with Macs is the fact that they retard technology for stability. The reason they are more stable is because Macs pick a single set of technologies and write an OS for that.

Apple makes the best operating system in the world, hands down. Call it a FreeBSD hack if you want but its still slick ass hell.

Oh and there laptops are awesome too.

Yeah, Macs are a bit over priced but so are BMWs.

Impossible to prove, especially since there are a lot more PC users than Mac users.

As a devout PC user (two machines running OpenBSD on x86, one running WinXP on x86) and network administrator for an enterprise network based on NT4 domains (with NT4, Win2k Pro, Win2k Server, XP, and 2k3 clients), I enjoy using Windows and x86 machines and have no issues with them.

However, the platform wars are (a) useless and (b) get a lot of people angry over nothing.

There are trolls for both Mac and Windows and every other OS under the sun. Feeding them more accomplishes NOTHING. So please stop.

Apple pretty much has complete control over the hardware found inside their computers. This makes them more stable than PCs, but PCs are far more customizable. You don't see too many people building their own custom Apple computers.

The thing I would like some Mac fan to explain would be that if Apple had such a superior OS, why are only a tiny percentage (I think around 5%) of computer users use it? And don't say because Microsoft's monopoly BS. A better product will win out. Apple has lost!

And as for the person claiming to have OSX for x86, can you offer any proof? Apple has stated they will not be making an x86 distro. Would be nice to not have to buy their hardware.

Just to be completly honest, I have a XP/2000/Me/98se/98/95/RedHat 9 multiboot test machine, a XP/RedHat 8 dualboot primary machine and a G5 on order.

I don't care if you believe me or not. I have a relative that is a software engineer at Apple. He has been working on Jaguar 10.2 for the intel platform. I though the IBM machine was running Lynx with a OSX skin, but it was it. None of the drivers work. And right now it only works with an ATI video card. Like I said it is very buggy. Most would consider it an Alpha version.

There is a project called Marklar that has been ongoing inside Apple since the early days of its transition to the Unix-based Mac OS X in the late '90s.

In December 1996, Apple acquired NeXT Software Inc. and its Intel-compatible OpenStep operating system. Under the company's "Rhapsody" OS strategy, it planned to base the next-generation Mac OS on OpenStep, shipping an Intel version to provide a cross-platform development environment. While developer previews of Rhapsody for Intel were released, it was never shipped to customers. The ones that customers did get was OSX.

My opinion of Apple remains unscathed, I doubt any amount of research would change that.

First off, when is the AMD-64 release? Simply announcing it, does not make it availible. Apple will be delivering their chips in about a month.

Second, with the sparc, perhaps you forgot that pc stands for personal computer. How many people use sparcs for their personal computing? It is not marketed for the desktop.

The AMD64s will be released in September. However, the Opterons (the "server-based" 64-bit CPUs by AMD) have been out for months and there are companies selling DP Opteron desktop PCs.

Either way, Apple's statement was marketing-speech, and ALL marketing-speech, regardless of vendor, is better off ignored.

Only 64 bit chips aimed at the server market are availible. Apple's 64 bit chip will be the first aimed specifically for the desktop. I feel their claims are justified as long as they ship on time. Only time will tell on that one.

Sooo true... I use Wintel PCs at work and two Macs at home - plus a Linux box. I have convinced my family to switch to Macs, but most people that I talk to about it fit into a few categories...

1) Power users - these people will rarely ever switch platforms from whatever they are on now, and certainly wouldn't so it because of someone else's opinions. <<this includes gamers>>

2) Work users - what motivation do these people have to switch - they only use computers because they have to.

3) Light users - don't understand computers anyway, so switching wouldn't really matter to them.

I switched....to PC. I got tired of not being able to upgrade as often and cheap as my friends. It worked out well, all my fovorite audio software is optimized for use with PC's and more of the audio plug-ins are PC only. I might own a Mac again if I ever get allot of cash to throw around and am able to buy a new machine every upgrade. Until then I'll stick with my PC. My latest machine has yet to geek out in four months of heavy audio editing and recording. I have no reason to spend that kind of cash..with the money I save I buy all the software I need.

Something about Apple just wreaks proprietary and elitist. I want to get on the web, play my games, dabble in photoshop and website design, and get my porn. I can build my PCs and fix them at a fraction of the cost of and a multitude of options compared to Apple.

And my Windows XP only has to reboot when i click "shut down". It's literally been up for months. I just don't get the whole mac thing unless you're in to graphics design or pro tools hardcore, which very few of us here are.

Amen, SuperMidget. Amen.

This is, of course, coming from someone who runs a mixture of *nix and win* for his different purposes, basically because he can't afford a Mac. (That is to say, I can't afford rent, either, but hey...)

Vanquish: Apple were not the first to have USB , its a common mistake, and typical FUD they claim to be the first to have 'exclusive' USB in other words, they dropped the serial ports and only offered USB, PC's had it years before iMac appeared, heck the standard was part created by microsoft.

As for everything standard, whos expansion bus is in that mac? what the type of graphics chip in it ? whos memory, whos drive types ? A lot of these were created in the PC or other marketplace.

Firewire is a an apple thing for sure, thats why its so expensive

Never the twain shall meet !

Apple hardware = teh dead sexy.

I wish I could use their hardware, but I don't (since I'm a gamer). Software written for it is really, REALLY good (see: Photoshop, where the Win version is JUST NOW starting to become like the Mac version), but ported stuff tends to suck it up.

But you have to admit that the machines look GOOD.

I love my G4 and the only problems are that it can be a pain in the ass when some site like realone doesn't offer the same services for mac users. Incidentally, Mediaplayer for mac has been out for awhile and it doesn't even show video for me half the time..How long does it take to upgade your crappy player, Bill? Oh- I would love a G5 even though my G4 does more than I need already. Am I compensating?..
