bought my gf some crack...
Well not actually crack per say, but a Blackberry, also known to those who have them as Crackberrys
I got her an 8830 for use on our Sprint account. Anyone have any experience with this phone and what you like or dislike about it? Maybe some tricks of the trade for once she gets her hands on it? I am just looking for your dealings with the unit, I am not looking for anything along the lines of "shoulda bought this one instead" or "Sprint sucks" etc etc. Just looking for thoughts and hints to help me out once we get it. Right now we both have Nextel i560's and this will be the first "smartphone" or PDA style phone for either of us. Thanks.

That's funny, I just bought a Blackberry Pearl today, which is the more cell phone-based Blackberry. I can't give any "tricks of the trade", but I like the phone a lot so far. There some confusing elements, but nothing Google can't take care of.

I was going between the 8830 and the 8330? Curve.
I went the 8830 route for the fact that she doesn't need the camera, and the Curve was sold out. Will be here on Monday then see what damage I can do.

What can opera mini do that the standard blackberry browser won't can't?
My thing is why load up a bunch of apps and waste space/memory when something already on the phone serves the purpose? And this isn't like saying why use FF instead of IE because it is already installed, if there are a bunch of security flaws or the features are head and shoulders above the standard browser then an "upgrade" to opera mini might be warranted.

I second getting opera. Soooo much better than the built in, and the only way to use websites not designed for mini-browsing. It actually renders websites at 800 x 600 and lets you zoom in on them and scroll around, rather than trying to render them at 200 x whatever.
Try using myspace (or tfp) with the built in browser, and you'll switch immediately.
