Stupid DVD Regions...
Whats the deal lately? The past year or so there are numerous new movies coming out that simply don't play in my computer DVD drive anymore, but play fine in everything else (DVD player, 360, etc.) Some movies that have been giving me problems include Sunshine and Home of the Brave. It just says "This DVD disc is not supported in your region. Last I heard, my computer is still region coded 1 as are the DVD's that I'm trying to play. All of my drivers are up to date so I'm at a loss.
I'm currently running Vista Home Premium SP1 (although I've had this problem before the SP too) Oh, and these are all legitimate, region 1 DVDs that I'm trying to play.

What are you using to play the DVDs? I would recommend using VLC. I don't know how it works, but my laptop DVD drive has no region codes and supposedly my university made them that way because of the exchange students.
Take a look here, if all else fails.

Some DVD's have a check so they will not play in region free players or DVD drives. Some DVD playback application have region codeing of their own, indepentant of the region code of the hardware.

I would think the first step is to figure out why the movies aren't playing in that computer. And Deamon1313 if the cause is region issue in the hardware then ripping might be difficult regardless of CP.

You might try Anydvd (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html ), or DVD43 (http://www.dvd43.com/ ). DVD43 is free and Anydvd is aretail product that has a downloadable fully functioning trial.

You could also try to make your DVD drive region free. There are lots of resources on this on the net, like:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=106479 which I found via: http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...e+Search&meta= I've never done this and it sounds like it can kill your DVD drive altogether (from my small amount of reading), but it would certainly mean not having to rip dvds to get them to work The top link also mentions this software as a method to circumvent region codes: http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free-lite.htm
