Brown lines on my screen!
Hi everyone,
I've had a long standing problem with my monitor. Brown lines will randomly flash across the screen. It makes it quite difficult to read text and such but for some reason the lines disappear when i open things like games. attached is a picture of what i mean. http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5...0054hf8.th.jpg Hopefully there is a solution aside from "buy a new monitor" although that is what i suspect i will have to do. Thanks in advance! |
If you know what video card you have, try updating it's drivers, by going on the manufacturer's site and looking for your model's latest driver. I don't think it's your monitor, but just in case do the same for your monitor.
I'm assuming you're running windows. You can find out what kind of video card you have by right-clicking anywhere on your desktop and clicking on "personalize" (if it's vista, I don't remember on XP) and then going to "display settings", click "advanced", and seeing what's under the "Video Adapter" tab. For XP it's similar. by going in the menus that have to do with your display and poking around you'll land on the video card somehow. Or you can go in the control panel, open device manager and see what your graphics card is. |
thanks! i'll give it a shot

do the lines move with scrolling? have you tried different screen resolutions?
|
if it's just an old CRT monitor you can pick up a replacement offa craiglist for like 10 bucks I'm sure.

if the problem continues, i'll try another resolution. yeah, it's a crappy old crt which could probably be replaced very easily. |
Ok, I have updated my drivers for the monitor and the video card, but I still get the brown lines. :(
Anymore ideas? |
Go into the "Settings" tab under display properties, click "Advanced" and find the "Monitor" tab. Check the maximum refresh rate your monitor can handle, uncheck the box that hides modes your monitor cannot display, and set it to at least double the maximum safe value. At least the acid trip visuals as you gradually lose horizontal sync will make your monitor's last days more fun.
Short version: you need a new monitor. |
not that I think it'll help much, but have you tried degaussing the monitor?
|
buy a new monitor
