iTunes alternative?
Currently I am running iTunes as my computer player. I do not have an iPod, I really don't like iPods, I have a sony walkman (click and drag kicks ass).
I like the way iTunes is set up, I like the little search icon in the top right, I like the way you can make your own playlists, I like the way everything goes. My problem is that it is a HUGE system hog, and as soon as you start running anything else on the computer iTunes starts to skip and chop really bad. Also in my control panel it always throws up Itunes helper, and iPod something or other, even when iTunes is not running and has not been run since a restart, they are still there. Also I have heard it told that iTunes really does a bad job on the equalizer and cuts lots of quality sound from your tunes. So in conclusion, does anyone know of an alternative to iTunes that is not a system hog, but still has the nice search function and library idea of iTunes? And I did a search on this but didn't really come up with anything like I am looking for, if anyone knows of any other threads like this please point them out to me! |

I used Media Monkey for a few months and while I never payed much attention to the exact amount of system resources it used - I never noticed any of the performance issues that most people have with iTunes. In fact, the only reason why I went back to iTunes is because Media Monkey wouldn't sync with my 80 gig iPod classic.
It'll allow you to create playlists and search your collection as well as displaying your album artwork automatic search and import of new music on your drives and it may even sync with whatever walkman you're using. Give it a shot.

I used iTunes once and instantly fell in hate.
Foobar2000 is the only thing for me. It plays everything and can DO anything to anything else. If you think it, it probably does it natively or there is a plugin for it. Since most people don't like the technical awesomeness that is FB2K: Here are some alternatives [list 1] [list 2] [list 3] [link 4].

http://www.musikcube.com/ is good. I believe it uses SQLLite which makes it pretty fast, especially for large music dbs. It is programmed in C and certainly isn't a system hog. Feature poor compared to Media Monkey (which is great btw, especially the reasonably priced gold edition) but very fast.

blahblah, are you using Windows, or Mac? (or linux?)
I've had a few problems with musikcube, but after searching for solutions for them I believe they were only present on my machine. When it was working fine, it was one of the best music player/library I've ever used. Give it a try.
