13x17 + printer suggestions ? w'Canvas Option
Hi Everyone,
I am looking for a higher end printer for my small studio so I can print customer's photos in house. I need the option to also be able to print on Canvas stock as well. (Budget is $1000, so I can't get the "Top" line stuff yet,,,but...) I have reviewed the below 3 printers.. Canon Pixma Pro9000 $700ish ( Still thinking bout this one, I do like the fact it was said it runs stock thru without looping it about, like the below two units do. ) the below two run it thru like in a U shape, if I understood it correctly,,could play hell on certain heavy paper stock or canvas.... Epson Stylus R1900 $550 ( looks pretty good, good reviews mostly, but some issues with stock feeding crooked or off angle. HP Photosmart Pro B9180 $700ish ( Great reviews, but cleans heads every six hours and thus was thought to eat ink very quickly. Ok,,so just to make sure I havn't missed any other good choices,, I would like to ask for your suggestions, particulary if you have used any of the above..other printer suggestions are more then welcome. My main things I am looking for: 1. Be able to print on canvas stock. (Hopefully with a roll option, but as long as I can get 13x17 prints I should be good for starters.) 2. Able to print 13" wide ( I would like 17" ,but my budget dosn't allow for Epsons 1300 series yet) 3. Able to buy the inks in bulk packs, larger amounts of ink at one timer would be cool, change cartridges less and all that.. 4.Produces consistent prints of hi quality.( As long as I can keep my monitors calibrated!! ) :-) Think thats bout the main points..after 5 hours of reading review after review, I'm all in and now very behind.....Thanks for ANY help that comes along! Cheers, ~S |

Ok,, ( Gonna answer this myself, as I took a nap and renewed checking data streams and making some calls ) Being as a few people seem to have viewed this thread, perhaps this will help someone else out.
I have settled on the Epson 3800 Pro. As it is currently in a UPS truck, I will have to post again to let you know results, but if the prints package Epson sent me is any clue, it'll do the job just fine,,Went a bit over budget, but heck, it goes to 17" and has huge ink cartridges compared to my current printer... 80m vs 10m.. I'll try and keep you posted on this one. |
