In my previous Firefox version a clicked link opened in a new tab. How do I get V.3 to do so?
I've gone to options and checked "pages should be opened in a new tab" but still it doesn't work. Any suggestions? |
My FF RC3 behaves properly. It should be under Tools > Options > Tabs > "New Pages Should Be Opened in" > * "a new tab"
|
I love FF3 - it has saved my computer!

(Release date on Tuesday!) |
Now installing Firefox 3, the real deal. Awesome.
|
I like it. nothing much different but it is faster than 2. It seems new.
|
I almost forgot that today is the official release. I am now upgrading to 3.0; I don't expect to see massive changes from Beta 5, but hey. Release versions are always nice.
EDIT - Interestingly, just as I finished downloading and decompressing the archive, the release version came out on livna (or at least my box checked the repo and found it). One click and about 90 seconds later, it was installed. So far, I don't see any major differences from the beta. To be honest, though, I'd be upset if I did. Don't mess with what works. |

when i said: nothing is that different, it was because it ran just as good as 2. even better except for 1 addon that I need everyday. so for now, it's really good.
|
I started using this yesterday. So far it's seems much quicker and I've not had any issues.
One thing that seems missing is the "back" button, seems a "refresh" has replaced it. Am I blind? |
I have a big green back button to the left of the refresh..

And if you don't like the large back button, you can always make it smaller!
one minor aesthetic issue I find mildly annoying is how the addressbar is curved on the left side but has right angles on the right side. just thought I'd note that here. |

My address bar (excuse me, awesomebar) is not curved on either side. I feel left out. So far as I can tell, we got no visual updates whatsoever. We may be nerds, but that doesn't mean we don't have a sense of style! And yeah, I know Linux is different, since it has to fit in umpteen different environments. I still feel left out anyway. |
I think it looks cool. The asymmetry of the back/forward is quite unique and stylish. The curve in the address bar makes it look less Windows 95 and more Mac.

I like the asymmetry as well of the large buttons, but I really hate large buttons being a minimalist when it comes to interfaces. I prefer the stuff on menus to be as small as possible especially when it comes to me getting the most porn- ... website content on the screen.

Is it possible I need to check for updates or un-install/re-install? I clicked about Firefox and this is what I see: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0 |
right click up there by help in the gray area and click customize then restore to default setup and see if that helps

If I'd have read Redlemon post more closely I probably could have got there earlier. Guess reading comp. isn't my specialty. |

It's really a minor bitch in the grand scheme of things. I mean, as long as all of the functionality is there it doesn't really matter what it looks like, and if I'm that bothered by it I can always change the theme anyway. |
well, I've had this installed for half a day - I've had a crash (you know the "Report to Microsoft etc" dialog box), but otherwise seems fine. Certainly seems much quicker than v2.
|
im loving it so far.
It turns out that the "Awesome bar" isnt so awesome if you dont want your little sister to know what a fucking perv you are. |

Also, does anyone (Redlemon) know why preferences is under the Tools menu in Windows but under the Edit menu in Linux? Admittedly that predates FF 3.0, but it's always confused me. |
ive tryed that martian, i tryed it yesterday.
but whenever i begin to type "fark" into my bar the first thing that pops up is "Fat Pussy". Shit, it even has a star! i KNOW this isnt in my favorites... Now how in the hell...? edit: did mozilla break the record on fire fox release day? edit squared: never mind, google answered my question. it turns out it will take a week or so to verify. |

sweet, i did find my fat pussy there!
tricky, tricky porn. thanks lemon. |
The forum ate my post. I was going to point out that you can unbookmark a website by clicking the star and then clicking the Remove Bookmark button that pops up.
You probably just clicked the star by accident. When going for the drop down menu maybe? You can always tell your little sister that you were looking for Garfield comics. |
|
cool....I wonder if someone actually sells that top :p
|
ohhh, proper marketing indeed!
martian, i have no idea. i think i may have book marked it to finish downloading a video or something and i just dont remember. ive had it on here for a while apparently. it was totally lost in the clutter of the folderless bookmarks. |

Once again, I have some really gay problems with FF.
First: when I have the VLC pluign active, everything media related says [no media]- not helpful for Apple Trailers. Next, when I disable it and have just the QT plugins, it won't show anything on Apple Trailers. Finally, when I have VLC and QT enabled, and try to visit Apple Trailers, FF 3 crashes! WTF. Addons: Free Download Manager, FireFTP, FoxyProxy, Google Toolbar Plugins: DivX web player, Java Platform, Mozilla Default Plugin, QT 7.5 Plugin, Shockwave Flash, Shockwave for Director, Silverlight, Windows Presentation Foundation |
I reverted back to 2.0.0.x today because FF3 wouldn't stop crashing despite removing addons. It worked fine on other computers. I just got tired of it and didn't feel like screwing around anymore.
|
What makes me mad is that it worked fine... then I updated the Adobe and Shockwave crap. Then a site used WMV, so I updated that plugin, then it crashes.
WTF! |
Hain: I haven't futzed too much with plugins... but perhaps when you disabled the VLC plugin, the settings under Options/Applications were set to either nothing or to VLC? Try disabling the VLC, then going to Options, and seeing what the settings are for that filetype.
