Pidgin and Thunderbird not working through Proxy
I have been moved to a new flat and the internet provided is through a proxy. I can clearly put the proxy settings into my programs correctly as my Firefox works. However nothing else works. Really important programs: Thunderbird and Pidgin (previously known as Gaim). I have searched the internet and nothing comes up. I have talked to the tech guys and they say install the native programs. To them, I say, Spoiler: "Fuck that!".
I would have to install AIM, Y!, MSN Messenger, ICQ, and mIRC, all 5 of 5 programs I hate. On top of that I would have to check over 10 seperate emails. Why so many? Many of them come with the messenger accounts. Others come from when I made email address names before I ever thought about needing an email address that looked respectable. I have set up the proxy connections correctly in Internet Explorer and have tried making Thunderbird and Pidgin use "global settings" (err... take the settings from IE) but neither program work. Windows XP Pro, SP 2, up-to-date Any suggestions? I haven't tried installing replacements like Trillian or Miranda, neither of which I like (maybe Miranda since it had a small foot print). I don't know what I would use to replace Thunderbird. Again, I am not in the habit of using replacements. That doesn't fix the problem. In addition, I use my laptop at home and at school... is there an easy solution to changing all these proxy settings in all of my programs? EDIT - Clarification: "I have set up the proxy connections correctly in Internet Explorer" EDIT - Addition: "I use my laptop at home and at school" Last edited by Hain; 03-14-2008 at 06:31 AM.. |

Interesting solution. Turns out his new upgrades to his proxy were screwing everyone using some programs. He went back and redid the upgrade right this time and now it works... without having to put the proxy settings into either Pidgin or Thunderbird. Essentially, problem fixed.
Now if only Gizmo would keep the proxy settings. |
