Another day, another problem.
I ran into a problem as soon as I have installed the latest drivers from nVidia website for my new 8800GT 512MB card. I could not find the resolution I was using with my previous computer (1600x1024 on EVGA 6600GT 128MB). I tinkered around with the custom resolution settings and with much trouble (scaling issues), I got 1600x1024 to be selectable from the Display Settings menu. The problem is that every time I restart, the resolution resets to 1440x900 and disappears from custom resolution settings on nVidia panel.
Why doesn't 8800GT support 1600x1024 resolution out of the box with the latest driver (while my 6600GT does) and what can I do to fix this problem? Thanks. |
Is 1600 x 1024 a native resolution for your monitor? What type and dimension monitor do you have?

I have a Sony Trinitron 24" (22" viewable) CRT. (http://www.superwarehouse.com/Sony_G...FW900/p/105660)
It doesn't have a native resolution, but the optimum one that I've found was 1600x1024. |
Same thing happened to my monitor. The problem dealt with the actual monitor drivers. If I installed the monitor drivers then I couldn't select anything but the native resolution. If I left the drivers uninstalled for the monitor, I could change it to whatever I wanted. Not sure if this helps. Also, going from DVI to VGA and/or using a combination of converters could cause the problem as well.

I don't think I've ever installed drivers for the monitor. It's pretty plug-and-play. I've had it for 4 years now and it had no problems. I do, however, have to use a DVI-to-VGA adapter since my monitor uses RGB connectors. Maybe that's the problem....
