Problems with Firefox and Quicktime

Hope someone knows how to fix this. Lately with firefox I keep getting an error that says it's missing a quicktime plug-in. I've downloaded quicktime and installed probably 3 times and still get the same problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

OS? Firefox version? Quicktime version?

I'd assume Win XP Home with SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.12, and QT +v7.4. If this is the case... No clue what is wrong. Either way, Firefox should grab the QT plugin from the QT installation directory, and vice versa, QT should install the plugin to the Firefox installation directory.

Have you tried reinstalling Firefox after you install QT? Is your Firefox in the default install location? Never know, maybe QT doesn't think to put the plugin in a non default Firefox installation directory. Have you tried uninstalling QT then reinstalling it?

Try creating a new profile in Firefox. This is the generic Firefox bugfix and solves 90% of the issues.

I am using Mac OS 10.4 and every time I update QuickTime I get the same errors in Firefox and Safari. It's annoying. I wasn't able to find any help topics on the Apple or Firefox websites. But I saw discussions for it on random forums - meaning people asking for help, but no replies with an answer. So what I did: I got ride of Firefox, QT and all related files, then I put QT 7.0.1 back on my HD. Haven't had any problems. If I find some help files or something that fixes the problem I'll update QT again.

Let us know if the making a new Firefox profile works.

My apologies for not putting in more information on my setup. Augi your assumption is correct. I am running Windows XP SP2, Firefox 2.0.0.12, and QT 7.4. I have made a new profile and it has not helped. I've uninstalled and reinstalled QT and that hasn't helped.

What sites are you trying to view that aren't working? Apple Trailers, by chance?

Sandame726 02-18-2008 07:26 PM

Oddly enough the apple trailers sight works just fine, but sites like youtube.com, my local news website orlandosentinel.com, and other forums like clubsi.com keep giving me the same pop up.

I don't know if the problem is from some form of embedded video advertisements or what.

Have you tried another Quicktime codec, such as the Quicktime Alternative Codec Pack? That solved it for me a year or two ago, I'm not sure if it still would though.

Thanks Scorpion23 that took care of the problem.

Glad to hear it helped. I'm still not sure what causes the problem, but it used to happen back when I still used Opera as well.
