Palm Lifedrive. What can I use it for?

Anyone own one of these? What have you found that it works well for (besides a paperweight).

I never really got mine to work well (power and synch problems, applications didn't work.

It has a 4G capacity and can play some video files well, but was unable to get the MP4 PLayer working.

I would live to use it to run Windows Media Player. Any suggestions?

I never got to use a lifedrive, but I have used a palm for since the 2nd iteration of their system.

I currently use my palm to write posts/journal entries, watch videos, read books, and give me information about cities. I don't use it for surfing even though I have wifi on it.

I dont' know how you can watch WMP type stuff on it since it's a PalmOS device. You'd have to convert WMA files into MP4 and watch those.

Thanks for the reply Cynthetiq.

I too have had successive Palm devices and currently use a Trio 700p. I love the organizer functions of this device and acknowledge that the Lifedrive also has similar features.

Like the Treo 700p, the Lifedrive has ptunes for a media player. I do not store much music as MP3 or MP4 files so this player is not much use to me.

I guess I was looking to see if anyone had figured out a way to "hack" the device and modify it for other substantial uses. Anyone?

Palm Robot

Loss prevention system @ Lowe's

MP3 play controller attached to PC

interestingly enough someone emailed me the other day asking me if I wanted their Palm V. I of course said yes. I don't know what I'll do with it as of yet.

I wonder if any custom firmware packages exist?

I could so see it as a great wireless Vista Sideshow device...

I use mine for the standard palm stuff...addresses and calendar...that's pretty much it. I have found the support for Vista to be a stinking pile, and haven't devoted enough time to make it really functional with my laptop...in fact, I'd love to see this thread become a primer in how to use it...save a little piggy from having to actually figure this fucker out. I've been using the limited functionality for a while...but only as a way to keep track of my time...

Nothing to add except that I miss my Treo... I hate the Blackberry I am forced to use.

There's always linux to install. From there you could do quite a few things if you had the time and energy.

http://hackndev.com/e107_plugins/con...nt.16.4#latest

Also, if you could get it to run as a sideshow device (Read: A lot of work), it would control WMP and WMC quite nicely.

arch: i'm way more stupid than that...I don't have time to wing it to be a little unix box...the days when I had that kind of time are behind me for a while...I just want the damn thing to sync up properly to my laptop...I'm way more basic in my needs than that. i could probably google around for it...but even that's a time limitation. i was hoping some lifedrive expert would have already figured out the link to get it working with vista so i could sync my calendar....but from what i've read on the palm site, it's only partially compatible with vista...which i'm forced to use for my laptop, etc.
