What are thoughts, XP or 98?
Which do you feel is better? Which seems more stable?
Better: XP
Stable: XP The System Restore feature is the best feature with XP. If you have made a mistake, you can simply click System Restore, and your mistake will disappear. |
Thanks for the info...very helpful!
Ive heard XP is much more stable. Unless your a gamer and need some kind of compatability always go with XP.
I think 98 is wonderful for me and as for system restoring i have roxio goback and that works like a champ. And 98 is way smaller where as XP is HUGE. Just was looking and saw that no one was Pro 98 and it is a very good operating system.
I would go with XP. I think 98 is a big pile of walrus dung. And, in my experience, XP only has problems with older games. XP isn't perfect, but it's Much better than 98.
go w/ xp, but make sure all your hardware is compliant.
my csanner doesnt work cuz the shitty manufactuer is too lazy to make a driver for xp. bastards |
I just went to XP pro and it is far more stable and I run games on it just fine.
when i ran 98 back when, i re-install every 6 mos. or so cause the system would start to bog down
XP Pro.
XP Pro all the way
I'm using XP home and I don't have to reboot 5 times a day and it almost never freezes up.
XP is better. Period.

XP pro here since I have a dual processor machine. Much, much better! |
Back when I didn't completely screw up my computer, I was using Windows 98, I loved it. Even though it's not as robust as XP, it isn't a resource hog, which is nice because it doesn't cost as much, espically for the poor people like me that live in a cardboard box, and have a phone cord plugged into the neighbors outlet(not really but pretty damn close)
I'm all for XP Pro. I kind of didn't like it to begin with because of the change in interface around the start menu, so I changed back to classic. I find it much easier to use than Win 98, and being able to control everything from the Management center was nice for me..
XP Pro or 2000 Pro either is good.
XP pro for games though... |
Windows 2000 Pro. Same reliable core as
XP, sans all the gumdrops and fruitcake. |
I'm partial to 2000 Pro, XP seems too bogged down.
XP!!!!!! Make sure youve got 512M ram or so and a 1 ghz CPU. I know it will run on less. But any less might run better with 2kpro
Windows 98? Are you nuts?! :)
XP's better. but interestingly enough I have some old games that work better under wine on linux than they do under XP :-P
NT :)
Stability is great on XP, No problems with games except for command and conquer...but that's ancient... Install w/ NTFS also it'll perform better.
if your cpu is over 1 ghz or so go with XP.
however if it is less than that, 2000 pro is a better choice. win 98 is a heap of crap. |
Win2K is the better option, by far
XP is too flashy and uses way too much of your CPU. 98 is way too unstable to be usable. That leaves you with 2K |
i used to be all about the 2000 never thought i'd upgrade to XP, got a new laptop, turned off some of the crayola stuff and its got some really nice features that 2K doesn't
Why's XP Pro so much better than XP Home?
my vote, XP Pro
Haven't had nearly the issues I had with running 98se |
if i wasnt so ignorant to the linux world then i would switch over to red hat but i know nothing about it so meh.
how can u guys have so much trouble with 98 it is just cake to keep running i run a check every once in a while and i am fine a few errors and updates and voila |
when i ran 98, it would crash AT LEAST 2 times a day, and garunteed to crash anytime i had more than 7-8 IE windows open. XP never crashes, it is as stable as a rock
Win2000 Pro... all the stability, none of the fisher price kiddy stuff that you have to turn off in XP, and none of the license activation crap.
If you are feeling adventurous - Server 2003 is a rock! |
Go with xp, 98 sux
win2000 pro all the way.
XP is more stable and is easier to use.
I'm running XP, but I (legitimately for once  ) got a copy of Windows 2003 Server that I installed on another comp, and I must say I'm thinking of switching to it for my desktop OS. It comes totally locked-down, so you don't have to worry about anything being on that shouldn't be.

I personally perfer win2k Pro.. Stable, reliable, Great Os
But as far as 98 and xp.. Xp has much better memory managment then 98 and its much more reliable and stable then 98 as well... |
XP. Of course.
I have this friend who, despite never having used XP, keeps claiming Win98 is "more stable". Yeah, fuckmunch, then how come you see five or six blue screens a day and the times I had o reboot my PC since I switched to XP can be counted on one hand ? |
2k Pro
