Using an 8800gt on my old mobo
Ok so I've had my eye on an 8800gt but I'm not sure if it will work on my mobo. 8800gt needs pci-e 2.0 and my mobo definitely isn't. All it says on the specs are pci-e x16. Here are the specs for my current mobo. If it doesn't work, anyone have recommendations for a good motherboard? It doesn't have to be 184 pin like my current one, need to upgrade my RAM anyway.

If you have PCIe 1.1, a PCIe 2.0 Card WILL work.
If you have 1.0 or 1.0a it will NOT work. I've yet to figure this out but $10 says it shows up some point in the boot screen / DMI. I'll let you know if I can figure out a simple way to find out specifically what type of PCIe you have. If you get a new motherboard you might have to get a new CPU. Currently, I also have a similar chipset and run a P4 530HT 3GhZ Prescott Series LGA775. I, too, was looking at the 8800GT but couldn't get it at best buy (ridiculous prices) - I'll wait, though. |
Hrm I'll check next time I start up, see if there's anything that says what it is.
