power point and music files

specs. 1.6ghz Pent4, 256mb ddr, 40gigs

ok. what i'm doing is linking music .wav files to powerpoint (about five + the content of hte presentation). the problem is i only have 2 slides done which include the linked music and the file is already 100megs large! and when i try saving at that point, it freezes mycomputer prompting a msg saying not enough available virtual memory.

-why would the presentation file be so huge if under options i made sure that any links of sounds over 200kb would be externally linked?

-is there any other file format i can convert the music files to that powerpoint would accept (if so, what program do i use?) do reduce the music size?

thanks all in advance!!

you can use MP3's in powerpoint. goto:

Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File…

As for the 100meg file size and everything, I really don't know. Good luck

It sounds like you are embedding the music, not linking them. If you are in fact linking them, the size shouldn't change. However, the downside of linking the music is that moving any of the files could potentially break your presentation.

ic. the mp3 bit helps a lot. thx spleen.

but boner, as for imbedding, in tools>options in the general tab, i make it so that any sound file above like 100kb is externally linked!!

thx htx

ok. let's say i go w/the mp3. when i do that, the image of the generic cone speaker is inserted. apparantly from what i've seen, its not too versatile w/the triggers and action script. right now, all it can do is play at start of slide and play on click. also , the image itself will be a problem. is there anyway i can make a simple button play the mp3? because what i want to do is use a button, add text and when clicked, start the mp3. but as of now, i cant figure out how to make a button play an mp3, but only wav sound files. anybody have a clue?

thx all !

Does anyone know how to stop the music from stopping when you change a slide. I was putting something together with several slides and animations, and Ive been confined to use one slide and painfully place images on top of one another with a delays. WHen I tried changing slides it stopped the music. The bottom line is I should be using Flash, but Im pressed for time.
