Any programs so i can hide my anime vids and music?

They dont have sex or such in them just very violent anime.. my son was watching death note and a few others like appleseed and well i cant have him doing that at his age.

Is there anything short of me buying an external HD to keep him out?

Ive an acer aspire 5920 notebook i use.. it has a 4gb personal security disc program that came with it but pffft thats a drop in the bucket for what ive got on here.

The note book came with a 130gb hd but due to a factory defect geek squad at best buy replaced it for free with a 350 gb hd

just checking here.

and on a side note to those that wonder i do alot of traveling now a days and 15 hr days so i dont get to post as much as i want to now a days ...

Yeah, put it all on a cheap 100+ gig external hard drive.

It'll free up the space on your hard disk, too.

Depending on the age and how computer savvy your son is, you could just make the folder containing the files hidden. A better solution, especially if he is pretty computer savvy, is to set up two accounts. One user account for yourself with your folder as being only read and write accessible by your account, and one for him where he won't have access to that folder.

If your vids are in your media player library, he'll be able to watch them by simply opening your media player, regardless of what hard drive they're on. Maybe install a secondary media player for vids you want to be accessible to others. Keep all private vids in a private folder.

1. Put anime series in .rar file
2. rename .rar file to frana12.blm and put in obscure system folder
3. ???
4. Profit!

When you want to watch the anime, just rename it back to a .rar file (or .zip file) and uncompress.

You could always use PGP (purchased product). Basically you make a password protected "disk" that stores everything into 1 file, you need to put in a password to open the file, and it mounts it as a drive or a folder on your computer. It also will un-mount from no activity in x minutes. That's what I've used for years and love it.

You could encrypt it. Free program to do this.

As aKula said, the easiest way is to encrypt it. And I'd recommend TrueCrypt as well - It's an awesome little piece of software.

Another vote for PGP. Also you can password protect any zip file with xp.

Thanks for that link. That's one I haven't seen yet...

how about building him a "guest" account on your computer and do not share the files.

Hain 11-28-2007 09:02 AM

If the kid is computer saavy, and believe me he can figure things like this out, go with TrueCrypt, like others have suggested. Think about it, if your kid can hack through a serpent-twofish-AES encryption that is hidden inside a similarly encrypted file... damnit he deserves to watch that violent anime at his age. You'd also have to consider putting him in a school for gifted children... and have him meet Bruce Schneier---the supposed "Chuck Norris" of cryptology.
