AT&T Fiber....yes, or no?

AT&T is finally dropping off fiber nodes here in my area. They came by the house last night, but my wife who doesn't know anything about this stuff sent them off their merry way. To her AT&T = phones, and we already have good cell phone service.

I like their prices, they actually charge less for a faster connection than TWC charges for the cable connection.

Have you had any experiences dealing with AT&T or their fiber-optic connections?

I don't know very much about the technology behind fios. Does it work very differently from cable, in terms of the user's end of it? Would I still be able to use my existing Linksys (argh) router to share the connection between my comps?

Any opinions or insights welcomed.

I can't give any information on AT&T specifically, but I can say that your router should be fine. They'll install a box in your home that will convert the signal for use on an ethernet cable. AT&T may or may not forbid use of a router in their ToS, however, so you'll want to either clear that with them ahead of time or just pull the router while the tech's doing the install.

The service is getting good reviews at dslreports.com, so that's positive.

I had IFITL (integrated fiber in the loop) a few years ago and it royally sucked. The service was insanely unreliable. Mainly because equipment was just not field proven and/or not installed properly. In the year I had it, they burned out close to a dozen NIC cards that managed the street I was on. Hopefully they've improved the tech but you never know.
