Antivirus protection - viruses - confusion?
AVG did a scan this morning and it popped up with a JS/Downloader Virus
I go back after scan is done and AVG doesn't even show that it did a scan today? WTF? So I go to comcast on line because I now get McAfee free and it says remove other VS - AVG uninstall asks remove user settings yes, also include those in virus vault yes or no? Which do I choose? Also I google JS/Downloader and on a couple sites it ask if I do online banking and have personal info. on pc I should reformat and reinstall. Is this a must? Because I don't have a clue as to how to do it and have nothing backed up. Before removing AVG, I suggest doing an online virus scan, at mcafee, trend micro, kapersky or any of the other big anti virus suppliers. You can run this through your browser.
You *should* be able to recover without a full windows install. http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner or http://au.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp/ or http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Ok, after doing a Trend micro scan nothing looks ominous but maybe I just don't know. Anything serious?
Can I just clean them out and be done? I guess my biggest question is do I have to reformat and reinstall? Thank you so much for any assistance!

They don't look to be anything to serious - you should be able to clean those and move on. Personally, I think reinstalling windows should be done as a last resort, and this situation doesn't appear to merit it.
