Home laptop repair and me
So a long time ago I bought a HP Pavilion zv6000; I loved my little laptop. One day, in one of my post-school day rages.. I injured said laptop. I threw a book at a blank spot on the wall and managed to hit my laptop in the keyboard. Slicing some of the keys off. I have a replacement keyboard... but no matter how hard I try I can never seem to take out enough screws to take the laptop apart. Since it is 2 years old, I'm no longer worried about voiding the warranty. But I would like to see if I could repair the keyboard myself. I've tried searching google for schematics; but have come up with nothing.
So I turn to you, the squad at Tilted Technology. Is there some trick to taking my laptop apart? Is there somewhere where I can learn this trick?

If you google search enough then you should be able to find someone somewhere who was in a similar situation as you who documented their efforts. But there's really no more advice I could give you than working on a clean, brightly lit surface with something to store your screws in and a digital camera to take pics and help you reverse the process.

The guys over at hardforum.com can get you to a site that has the full service manual for your laptop. Even with it, however, good freakin' luck. I took apart my laptop at the beginning of summer. Took me forever, and I thought I'd never get it back together. I'll stick with building/fixing desktops.

Shameless Dell Plug INC:
Dell keyboards come off with 2 screws. Anyway, you should be able to find the schematics on google somewhere. It sucks that it's not easy to get the keyboard off because it should be. Schematics for all Dell laptops are on the Dell website, including instructions on replacing every single component in the laptop (even the CPU, PCMCIA cages, etc.). |
