Windows Update Weirdness...

So very odd...

Brand spanking new system, with a fresh install of XP.

I go to Windows update, and it tells me that there are no updates available for my system??? Surely they jest. When I last reformatted (last week) there were like, 40 critical updates, and a bunch of XP reccommended ones.

Anyone else seen this?

You might have problems if you are using XP Corp. and the common CD Key. If this is the case, then M$ is telling you to go out an buy a legit copy in order to update.

Did you reformat when you did this latest installation? Has rebooting worked?

No, no, it's a legit copy of XP Pro, and I even activated.

I've found that this was a common problem for people upgrading from Win98, but that's not the case here...I took a blank drive and put XP Pro on it's virgin ass. I don't have the currentVersion registry key that would cause problems like this.

It's a bit worrysome, actually...cause critical updates are...well, critical, at times. Not sure what to do here.

Any thoughts? I'm sick of reinstalling things, but if it'd help...

Wow...weird and a half.

I noticed that the date was wrong, off by over a year...it thought it was 2002. Fixed it, and the problem went away.

Silly Micro$oft...

I was messing around with new WinXP box and I noticed that when the time was set to synch with Microsoft's time server, the time would be off by 10 minutes! I was adding it to our domain at the time and when I was done it did the synch with the network time server and all was well.
