The iPhone Thread
I didn't see an official iPhone thread yet, so, here is one!
I picked one up last week and have been pleased with it so far. The lack of "official" third-party apps causes me to frown at Apple, but I have no doubt that in time they will be providing more and more software features. In the meantime, there is a community of people providing interesting ways to use your iPhone. My favorite "unofficial third-party app" so far is Telekinesis. Telekinesis (aka iPhone Remote) allows you to easily set up your home mac as a media server for your iPhone, as well as access the camera, take screencaptures, even open and manage applications remotely. I even briefly poked around in WoW via my MacBook Pro on my iPhone. I also have ordered an iSkin revo case. I should get it today.

... a sort of licensed troubleshooter.

One thing to bear in mind with Apple is that it develops all of it's own software. This means that everything is designed to compliment everything else. While this is limiting, obviously, for those who don't need third party applications it's a blessing. It's similar to the philosophy with Apple computers.
That said, there's already plenty of interesting third party apps to toy around with. Not only that, but there are A LOT on the way. I'm interested to give Telekinesis a shot. It sounds interesting. I may get an iPhone when they have 30 and 60gb hard drives. For now, I'll stick with my Samsung by Verizon. |

The iPhone has no "harddrive" -- those 8gb are memory, which is faster, smaller, less-hot, etc. than a harddrive.

No, I'd rather have some movies on the iPhone hard drive. |

I'm sorry for derailing the thread but I have to post this:
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=iphone Maddox on the iPhone. I seriously couldn't stop laughing at work, mainly because it was posted on Digg and if you go to Digg you know the magnitude of Maddox making it to the front page bashing a Digg favorite. |

not a threadjack, but........
while the iphone looks pretty and all, i haven't seen any features that make me want to rush out and buy one. i like the voicemail feature that i've heard about, but other than that, my blackjack with a 2gb memory stick does just about everything the iphone does. i may not hve wifi, but around here, not very many hotspots and i have edge and 3g. for streaming music and videos, i use orb. with orb i can also do documents and access it from other things, not just the phone, with nothing to install. (psp, another cpu.....) my blackjack with its extended battery weighs less biggest factor for me: i won't cry if i fuck up my blackjack at work
