[Knoppix] Apps closing on their own.. - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I tried viewing some of the web pages mentioned on the Knoppix web site about FAQs and problems but they weren't working with me, and I know some of you have had experience with it..

First time using Knoppix or any Linux.

I'm running the live cd, no hard drive usage, and I'll have a few windows (sometimes Home folder, maybe a Konquerer window) and all of a sudden they will just close. It seems to happen at around the same time I hear the CD-rom start spinning...

Is this common? Or is there something I need to fix?

I haven't seen that behavior specifically running Knoppix 3.1 and 3.2, however I haven't used it much.

I have seen something like that behavior when running Mandrake and SuSE installed.

Does any other part of the Desktop disappear when this happens?

weird, try the disc on another pc. what version of knoppix? btw, knoppix w/partimage is great.

Knoppix 3.2. This was at the default 640x480 resolution. Nothing else disappeared, just the apps.

I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 with 256 mb ram and a 2 ghz p4.

Yesterday I set it up to at 1280x1024 and never had any applications just close. This morning however, I've tried starting up Knoppix and am getting about 4 errors in the beginning about cloop and unrecovered things.. and bytes lost... When it finally gets to the desktop 3/4 the desktop picture didn't even load.

I don't know what does it. I'm on Knoppix right now, and whenever I open more than 4 tabs in a Konqueror window, Konqueror will just close. I wish I knew...
