Case Mod question..

I'm thinking off doing a case mod for the comp in my room. Where I might leave the comp on throughout the night. And the Lights and LED's might be a little annoying. Is there anything that I can use to turn them off eg a switch?? Can you reply with some advice or links or anything else??

Well, you could splice into them all and run it to a rado shack simple on/off switch. It'd probably be quite a pain to do though.

Hmm...Either that or you run all of the lights off of a secondary power source (something other than the comp's power supply) that you can just turn off without shutting down the computer.

It's a good idea, cause the amount of light at night made me decide not to do any cool mods like that. My room gets very hot, so I hooked up a huge fan to the case (the kind they use in data center cabinets). That was easy though, since it wires straight into a power outlet

I would go with a secondary power source. This way you can alter it's wiring, instead of messing with the wires on all the mod lights/etc. Just in case you want to sell them later. Depending on how many things you're hooking up, you can probably find an a/c adapter or some other transformer that u can sacrifice to wire it up.

Be careful though, electricity is dangerous! And it might short out all your cool mods.

lot of work just adding a switch in series? wow guess u dont do a lot of mods? now making ur own rheo bus is hard.... the 12 v that a pc outputs to ts lines u wont even feel thru ur skin unless u stick it on ur tounge... now the 200v capacters in ur psu will bite they threw me 5 feet acrossed my room... if u have a spare ATX power supply get some wire and make a jumper from the green wire to any ground wire [black] and u can use a power supply w/o a mother board plugged into it... when i get my case done ill let you pplz see it....if u or ne one else needs help with pc mods or circutry ill gladly help you on aim Brian51487

Go to Radio Shack and pick up a cheap switch, then drill a hole for it in an empty drivebay cover. That's the same set-up I have and it works fine.

Also, depending on where you get the lights from some will come pre-wired with a switch. All you have to do is set up a place for the switch. The light I ordered, with the switch, will show up tomorrow.

Make a baybus, search google for it and you'll find many pages on making them, basicly just a bunch of on/off switches in a spare bay cover, a pain to wire but worth it in th end. Can control lights ,fans and so forth, if you do it right you can even control the fans speed.
