FAST help needed on Motherboard help
Guys, I am back again, this time with another problem. I am working on my mom's computer. The mainboard is an MSI K8N Neo 4. The problem that I am having is even though Windows XP-pro is showing it is there, every time I connect a USB 2.0 device to the system, I get a warning saying that It would work faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port. Now in the "system" area under devices it DOES show the "enhanced" usb 2.0 device is installed and working properly. but if i connect a device up to ANY of the 6 USB ports, it shows up ONLY under the "standard" USB device, not the "enhanced" USB device list for USB components. HELP GUYS AND GALS!

Do you have SP2? Do you have the latest BIOS?

Should check out the msi website to see if they have any updates for the firmware/bios whatever you want to call it for that board. And of corse make sure windows is up to date. Other then that... make sure you have some duct tape handy.

I guess I should have been more specific. I have done ALL the obvious things, Bios updated, latest software, latest drivers, all the mundane simple things have been done. I am thinking it may be a MB problem, but I am out of warranty on it, and I can't really afford to buy a new MB for her, so I am crossing my fingers hopeing for a resolution. lol. thanks so far for the help guys. I'm still trying.
Well I found the problem! FINALLY! Somehow when XP was installed, the system installed TWO different root hub controllers, but only the USB 1.0 hub actually allowed connection. I deleted the "enhanced" drivers, full deletion of the hub, and then refreshed the system. It picked up the 2.0 enhanced capability, but then PROPERLY installed the "enhanced" drivers underneath the basic hub, instead of in its OWN hub. Thanx for all the help and suggestions guys! |
