What kind of crazy set up would be possible?

I browsed the internet for "Best computer ever" but that didn't really give me results.

So what would your PC-room look like? Would it even be a room? The only thing I could think of was to go to a Hardware place and say "Give me one of everything". What specific things would you buy?

I'd farm it out...

4 Full racks of 32proc systems running Server2003 Data Center w/ Terabytes of HDD space hundreds of GB of RAM. and some 8mb ATI Video card (its a server don't need more :P) Then i'd have someone write me a custom program to cluster them all together get APC to come in and hardwire a UPS capable of running the setup for 24hrs w/o power. Then I'd call the SETI Team @ Berkely and go. Hi here's a present :)

That'd prolly be like 10mill easy

Imax theatre for a monitor anyone? How cool would that be.

I would be fine with a nice 60 inch+ plasma screen as my monitor.

Cray is not building machines anymore to the best of my knowledge.

I'd get a nice Opteron cluster. They have 8-ways out right now, but it can get larger. And they can run 32 and 64 bit code, so I could do just about whatever I wanted.

basically the same as everyone else.

One room, several different severs hooked up to an OC3.
Three slamdance damn cool comps with EVERYTHING in them, and the fastest of said hardware available. Those networked to a damn cool HP color laserjet printer. Get huge ass LCD screens, etc.
Most of the $$ would go into saving because when bigger better things come out, I don't want to be stuck.

If I had that much $$ though it'd go to raising my child and caring for my wife. I would start my own business, as would she.

DEC Alpha 21264's; the only way to fly.

BeBox, NextBox, something cool and old school.. or maybe a sparc laptop. SGIs are very nice as well.

Aceshardware has a guide to suggested computers to build ranging from budget to god box which they put out every so often.

I like the rackmount servers idea. A huge processing farm. Either that or go over to the University of Illinois and steal their super computer. Seriously, the only building on illinois' campus that has armed guards.

get like 10 Xserves together and a custom G4.

i'd want a huge LCD tablet display so i could draw right on the monitor.

I also want it so it like detaches or something into a laptop

i'd have all this money i could just call Apple up and be like make me an awsome mac, they'd call it the MacGnG, lol
