OK so my friend has some older 10 inch car subs sitting around his house


he was wondering if it's even possible to hook it up to his computer to get some deeeeeep bass into his room.


i was just wondeirng if anyone knows if it's possible and how i would go about doing this

need amplifier to power the subs...need crossover or something to filter out the lower freqs so that the subs actually give out just bass.

no different than any audio system...

well i mean, how would i go about doing all of that, I'm a noob to all of that :-/

Can it be done? Oh sure! Can it be done for less than a half decent set of computer speaks with a good enough sub? Not a chance.

You would need an amp to drive them, crossovers to remove anything above roughly 100-150Hz, depending on tha sub & music. You would also need the box for the sub, but I am assuming you have that already. A 2.1 amp that is capable of driving the subs would be all you need, really, but you're looking at a few hundred minimum.

Better idea, sell them to some kid, take the cash and put them into something more ideal.

Car amps run off a 12 volt pwer source too, so you'd need a converter (or a car battery, Ha Ha) to power it. Tinfoil has the best idea, sell it to a kid and invest in an system made for a computer. I have output jacks on my sound card that I ran to my home stereo system, another good option.

I'll mirror what everyone else is saying: cheaper to buy a computer sound system separately. I've tried something similar, except with hooking it to a home theater instead of computer, and it's just ridiculous at the price you have to spend to get the damn thing up and running - not to mention, it's not as safe as a retail solution. Not worth it. Sell the subs, buy some good computer speakers :)

a friend of mine did this, he already had most of what he needed to run it. he built a nice box with good wood and a mirror, with the amp and other stuff mounted on top, looked really nice and sounded good too.

but if your having to ask what you need to do to do it, and you dont have most of what you need I'd recomend selling them as well.
