RAM Question (pretty stupid...)

Is there anyway to find out what sort of ram I have without opening the tower and actually looking at it?

OS - Windows XP Home Edition (build 2600)

who built it? they should know.

also, in 98se, you could go to start>programs>accessories>system tools>system information to get about 95% of everything you need to know about a comps configuration. dunno if they kept that in XP. you might look for it though.

You know what mobo you have?

If you do, look at the specs of that mobo and find out what ram you need, just get the fastest that the mobo supports and you will be fine.

Dell built it, so it's a crappy dell mobo too.
Also Dell customer support are about as helpful as banging your head off a wall.

/me wanders off to find manual.

Thanks for the replies.

[edit]No system info doesnt tell you what type it is, nor does directx or pcmark. Well maybe the full version of pcmark does but the free one doesnt.[/edit]

thats like generic memeory for most desktops. Thats the same kind of memory for my eMac. i just bought some (more) online.

if u are asking to try to find out what kind u need to buy more of, i suggest searchin on google and looking online for your best price. retail stores charge way too much.

www.crucial.com is the site, as oiekeooiyw said.

pc133 ram is not the latest by far, and is relatively slow compared to the new models.

but you should be able to find a good stick for cheap .

also, make sure you know what the largest it will take in one slot.

my old pc would only take a 128mb stick per slot.

Largest stick it takes is 512mb.
€96 for a 512mb stick is the cheapest I've found so far, that's about $113.

PC 133 should be no where near that expensive for a 512mb stick. Pricewatch.com has the cheapest listed at 36$ and brand name ram is most likely about 50$.

i suggest you try to get it send to somebody you know in the US, and then have them ship it to you (or send it through somebody).

it's much cheaper that way.
